lyrics: It’s summertime So close your eyes Eat some strawberries And drink some cold champagne And with closed eyes Yield to the sweet sad pain Cause all you have to do is stop thinking All you have to do is stop caring All you have to do is start drinking And take off all the clothes you’re wearing And all you really need now is the Ocean For your naked body to plunge into The cold water to cool your sunburn And make you forget all that you’ve been through It’s summertime Your heart is numb Mosquitoes feast upon your body Your head is light You’re kind of drunk But the waves are now in tune With your own heartbeat All you have to do is stop thinking All you have to do is stop caring All you have to do is start drinking And take off all the clothes you’re wearing And all you really need now is the Ocean For your naked body to plunge into The cold water to cool your sunburn And make you forget all that you’ve been through You’ve got it all You’ve got strawberries You’ve got the champagne And the beach You’ve got the sand and the Ocean And the sunshine And the heat But the one thing you don’t have Is someone to rub sun lotion on your back All you have to do is stop thinking All you have to do is stop caring All you have to do is start drinking And take off all the clothes you’re wearing And all you really need now is the Ocean For your naked body to plunge into The cold water to cool your sunburn And make you forget all that you’ve been through

lyrics: Let's be swingers, let's be brothers Let's be lovers undercover at the bar tonight Buying drinks for one another As we fall on top each other In the back under the light You look beautiful tonight With your hair piled heavy in a halo on your head Oh no you don't need to say it Oh I knew it when I saw you That you were one of us girls who get drunk As the best way we know how to open up I will take him home We'll start making out before we make it to the front door Wait for it and I swear that it will come Now you're flashing back to the days when you were younger Woods behind my house Whose that man covering up our mouths When will you understand as embarrassed as I am When I look at the body of a man All I see is a stock piling of weaponry
3.
lyrics: I'm glad you're here and you're holding my hair up high. I'm not gonna die, it just feels like it. Does he care? Does he wonder why I cry? Will he ever take my side? You say he's not worth all of this. So fuck the show, let's get another bottle. We'll both feel better when we get some water and a second wind, and a new start. What's left of the night is on my shoes, but the vendor's open 'till 2. You reach down and pull me up. I look at you and say "you're hot." You toss your head and laugh out loud. Our eyes are swimming through frozen air that doesn't feel so cold, 'cuz getting drunk with you never gets old. Fuck the show! Let's get another bottle. We'll both feel better when we get some water and a second wind and a new start, with an old friend.

WORSE THAN QUEER is not only a line from a Bikini Kill song but also the name of a little riot grrrl inspired festival that took place for the first time in January 2012 in Nuremberg, Germany. We, eve massacre and jessthreat had the idea of a compilation accompanying it - a compilation with a topic: Grrrls drinking songs.

Why the hell 'grrrls drinking songs'?
Well, first reason: there aren't enough out there. Songs about drinking together often really are about friendship but most of the time exclusively about male friendship. It's like a blind spot, as if us females of the species wouldn't do those things. We also go out together, have our fun, have a couple of alcoholic drinks. Or we sit together with a beer and have those totally profound conversations (not about boys, Mrs. Bechdel!). Or we get ourselves up into mischief together because of some silly drunk idea. Or take life on tour: all the things that happen while you're having a beer together - it really is the perfect subject for bands. So it's no surprise that there are countless songs about it but hardly any of them from a female perspective.
The other thing is that there still is some kind of taboo about women gettin drunk: A women is supposed never to get more than just a bit tipsy. If she gets too drunk to explicitly fight back when a man sexually attacks her then she gets the blame. On the other hand a man who rapes a woman in a badly drunken state often gets excused because 'he didn't know what he was doing'. That's how implicitly women get the duty never really to let go because they are always responsible for what could be done to them. Ladies, do we always have to control ourselves? Well, I think: Oh no! We have the same right to party excessively if we want to as men have.

That's just two thoughts that made us come up with the idea of a Grrrls Drinking Songs compilation.
What we rather didn't want it to be about: Glorification of the every-weekend ritual of boozing inna Ballermann / Spring Break style, until you're unconscious, until you get all ruthless, just to forget about your shitty everyday life. Our idea is: Songs about social drinking that pour a shot of hedonism into the lap of the health police.

So we sent out mails to a few bands / artists we knew and we told them it didn't have to be a masterpiece or a high-end recording but that we would be happy with all kinds of contributions - no matter, if it's a silly song or a pissed-off one, a profound one or a banal one, a punk-singalong-hymn or a sad indiefolk song, electro or hiphop - whatever! And we got 11 wonderful songs, from all kinds of genres and backgrounds - thanks so much to everyone who sent us a track! Some of them can already be found on released albums, some are exclusives - no matter what: we included links to the artists and where you can buy some of their music if you feel like supporting them. They deserve it.
This compilation is a non-profit thing, just for the grrl idea, just for the fun of it.
Now enjoy. And spread the word, would you?
